Installation of paving stones
We install all different paving stones produced in the Estonian market. With ten years of experience, the Kiviguru team can install any stone.
In addition to laying paving stones, we have also installed concrete slabs of various sizes. In addition to design, measurement and visual aspects, the substrate of the stone pavement must conform to the norms, which is also the basis of this work.
Depending on excavated soil and utilization, the substrate shall be filled with sand, coarse or fine rubble, as appropriate.
In addition, the substrate must be correctly compacted in stages.
With extensive experience in laying paving stones, we also build different substrates, milled roads, parking lots and many others according to the client’s wishes.
If you want changes to your home yard, perhaps a stone paving square needs to be established, or you want to build different substrates instead, please contact us and our professional team will find the perfect, as well as the most affordable solution for you.
Recommendations for the installation of paving stones:
The area to be paved is measured and marked.
Frost-hazardous soil layers are removed.
A layer of rubble or gravel (grain size 0-16 mm) is spread over the excavated area.
Rubble layer is levelled and compacted with a vibrator.
3-5 cm thick sand pad is applied to the bearing layer.
The stones are laid on a smoothed sand pad, where the piling starts from the wall of the building.
Finally, the pavement is sprinkled with dry sand and brushed into the joints of the stones, and the surface of the pavement is compacted with a soil compactor weighing 80-100 kg.
Here’s what to keep in mind for a good result:
Due to the harsh Estonian climate, humidity and soil rise, frost-hazardous soil must always be removed under the pavement for durability of the pavement, the thickness of the substrate is determined by the type of soil and the purpose of the paving.
After the foundation is made, the starting point of the pavement is determined and the area is divided into smaller pavements, to be paved all at once. On very soft ground, in some cases, it is worthwhile to start laying stones only after the base has been able to subside through the winter.
Good tools make paving work easier. You would need a shovel, wooden railing or steel pipes 20-30 mm in diameter, directional cord and stakes, marking gauge or truss bar, and beacons, vibrators, water levels for smoothing the sand pad, cutter, a large hammer of wood or rubber and a brush for cutting the stones, as well as proper working gloves.
Stones (UNI, UNI-DECOR, KARTANO) at least 80 mm thick must be placed in the heavy traffic area.
With regard to foundation works, it is useful to remember that all cables and pipes must be laid during the foundation works. The final slopes of the rock surface must also be designed and made with the substrate.
Installation of curb stones
Installation of curb stones in different sizes (also granite, if necessary). We install sidewalks and driveways.
The curbs tones are used to support various squares, to bring together specific surfaces and depending on the customer’s request, we can build stairs as well.
Depending on the choice of stone, the required depth for the installation must be dug.
Later, the rubble stone base is prepared, after which a concrete base must be laid along the cord, on which the desired curb stones are laid. To fix the curb stones, they must be supported with concrete both front and rear.

There are two types of concrete curb stones used in road construction:
– Driveways curbs
Uses are mainly car parks, streets and squares, i.e. rather the places where there is car traffic. The dimensions of the stone are 290x150x800 mm. During installation, the surface of the stone remains above the road surface.
– Pavement curbs
Used on the edges of sidewalks, in enclosing beds and lawns, etc. The dimensions of the stone are 200x80x1000 mm. Installation can be done in two ways: level with the surface of the road or up to 10 cm above the surface.
Installation
- Preparation, preparation and once again – preparation – calculation and marking of heights. Creation of bedding with rubble and compaction with soil sealant.
- Further installation will take place with concrete mark B15, with a layer thickness of about 5 cm under the stone.
- Curb stones should be laid with a water level following the cord so that the stones are level.
- Securing the stones from the joints both front and rear.
- The ditch around the stones must be filled with gravel and sealed.
Construction of substrate
Just as appropriate for road builders, we are building different substrates with our Kiviguru team as per the client’s request too. Just as in the case of paving stones, in the case of substrates, the soil must be excavated, disposed of, filled with sand, coarse or fine rubble, as required. Depending on the purpose of the substrate, each layer must also be regularly compacted.
If you want different substrates, feel free to contact us and we will find the solution that suits you best.
